[ Courtney Love ]

First of all, for what I am about to say, let me apologize to Jana, who likes Courtney Love quite a lot.

I like Courtney's music, but I can't respect her personally.

Rumors about her having something to do with Kurt Cobain's death (and I really freaking hope she didn't, because I worshipped every note ever written by him and his death was really difficult to deal with), aside, I think she probably isn't a very nice person. She insists on trying to have complete control over her dead husband's music, not taking into account the fact that she didn't make even the slightest contribution to it. She didn't write a single note for Nirvana yet she wants to keep Dave Grohl and Chris Novoselic, who co-wrote and performed it all with Kurt, from having any say in what happens to it now that Kurt is gone. A box set of Nirvana's work, including 43 tracks previously unreleased, was supposed to have been released this year but won't be because of her greed-motivated bullshit. Don't Dave Grohl and Chris Novoselic mean anything to anyone? They put actual work into the music, it's creation and the touring and cost that goes along with promoting it. What did Courtney do, besides marry Kurt?

Actually, that's about it. She married Kurt, and now she thinks because of that she should have complete and utter tight-fisted control over his legacy. She's entitled to a share of course, because they had a child together. But to prevent the other two members of the band, the people put their time and effort into it along with Kurt, of being able to have control over their own music is immoral, selfish, greedy and just plain wrong.

She makes a fantastic living and has a well established name of her own. She doesn't need to do this, to take control of someone else's work. Especially since the other people involved are still alive to suffer the consequences of her actions. She has talent and supports her child well with it, why keep this other thing going? Why tie up other people's lives and right to creative control over their own art when it wasn't hers to begin with?

She has no right to that music. Only the people who actually created it should have it.

There are things that she does I admire greatly. Her music for one, her acting for another.

This business with Nirvana's music will never be one of those things. She is completely and utterly wrong in pursuing this and I hope she stops before it results in an even longer court battle. Dave Grohl and Chris Novoselic have been denied the rights to their own work for far too long.
